SOUTHERN BAPTIST DISASTER RELIEF TRAINING
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17
, 2022

Please allow us to introduce ourselves to you. We are John and Gay Williams and together we serve as the directors of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief for the HPBC.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is a cooperative effort between members of churches from 42 State Conventions and the Canadian Baptist Convention, the North American Mission Board, and the International Mission Board to deliver the Gospel message of Jesus Christ through the ministry of disaster relief. There are many great organizations that serve only a humanitarian purpose, ours is different. While we do provide humanitarian support, we never forget that we are there to share the message of Christ's love to a dying world.
We would like to personally invite you and your church to participate in our upcoming Disaster Relief training. The training will be held at Kaumana Drive Baptist Church on Saturday September 17th. Check-in starts at 8:30AM and training will run from 9:00AM to 4:00PM with lunch provided. Cost for the training is $25 (Cash or Check) which will cover background check, SBDR Badge and Tee Shirt. Volunteers must be 18 or older, a member of a Southern Baptist Church and are required to retrain every three years. Register at HPBaptist.net/DR

Praising God for such a beautiful Big Island Fourth of July,

with a lovely balmy breeze and plenty of delicious picnic and BBQ foods,
but especially for the blessed fun and fellowship found in the Family of God at Puna Baptist Church!
Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make this all possible - MVP - Timothy Tamashiro, the BBQ Hero,
and Vera Vera, our photographer.
But most of all we thank You, Lord, for setting us free in Christ Jesus.

"If therefore the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." John 8:36.

Highlights from May 22, 2022 Appreciation and Farewell  Luncheon for Pastor Rob and Donna Thommarson

Our send-off for the Thommarsons could not have been more perfect! Many tearful thanks were expressed at the end of the service and then a delicious luncheon was served. Watching Pastor Rob and Donna personally interact with nearly every person there after lunch was reminiscent of how each of them, in all their years here, got to know, love and bless nearly everyone who came to Puna Baptist Church, teaching us and giving us hearts after God's own heart to "Go and make disciples of all nations..." Matthew 28:18. Aloha and Godspeed dear brother and sister.

National Day of Prayer, May 5, 2022
NATIONAL PRAYER

Lord, we exalt You.
We are filled with awe and wonder as our praise joins the heavenly hosts saying,

“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts,
The whole earth is full of His glory.”
You have established Your throne in heaven and the foundations of the earth.
You alone are the Creator; the earth is Yours and all it contains is for Your glory.
You created and established all of us as Your image bearers.
May our lips and lives continually praise You, reflecting and magnifying You in all our words and ways.
You are the author of our days, You have established Your plans and purpose for us.
We respond to your glory and authority in obedience to Your Word and will.
You have established prayer that we, Your children,
Can communicate with our Heavenly Father directing, strengthening, and discipling us in Your everlasting love.
We join heaven’s activities as we lift up our prayers
And pour out our praise, repentance, thanks, intercession and supplication.
Lord, You have established America through the hearts of our founding fathers and
the documents they penned declaring our dependence on Your sovereignty and supremacy.
We overflow with gratitude having been firmly rooted and built up in our faith in You.
Let our reputation be of our faith in Christ alone,
our love for all people, and fruitful lives bearing the attitude, affections, and actions of Your Spirit,
Who dwells and works within us and through us.
We pray for America: the Church, Family, Education,
Military, Workplace, Government, Arts, Entertainment and Media.
United in Your love, we exalt the Lord who has established us.
In Jesus Name we always pray, Amen!

On Sunday, May 1, 2022, George Schroeder, V.P. of South Western Seminary (Pastor Alan's Alma Mater), was our guest speaker.
During the afternoon, he lead us in a workshop,
"How To Defend Your Faith Every Day", in accordance with 1 Peter 3:15:

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts,
and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you
a reason f
or the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;"
We had a good turnout, even people from other churches. Mr. Schroeder gave a practical and personal talk, emphasizing being bold and confident in the power of the Holy Spirit, loving enough to share; using Scripture, "a lamp shining in a dark place"; speaking with gentleness and respect, "inexplicable kindness and love" (just like Jesus!).
He taught that in order to defend our faith we must first KNOW THE LORD and KNOW HIS WORD.

And we should use Scriptures like Ezekiel 36:26 to touch people's hearts and leave thoughtful messages from God in their minds: "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone
and give you a heart of flesh."
We need to listen, learn the person's background, then ask questions such as, "Tell me more about that", and
"How did you come to that conclusion?"
We can even make Gospel appointments, a short lunch just to share spiritual stories, theirs, yours and, of course, God's! Find common ground then show them the truth within their cultural context (ask God to help you with this). Be sure to share all the Truth, blessings and consequences.

O God, please give us boldness, wisdom, courage and love to share the Gospel, to listen and to be obedient.
Thank You, Lord. Amen.

And then we must leave the results up to God!

On Sunday, May 8, 2022 We enjoyed a Mothers' Day Luncheon hosted by the Puna Baptist Men's Ministry after Worship Service. It was lovely to fellowship with everyone again in the pavilion on this first luncheon gathering in more than two years.

We Are Praying For Our Children

Puna Baptist Church is praying for the children of our church and community. We are praying for creative ways to love them, connect with them, and teach them the Word of God during these challenging times.

How God is answering our prayers...
