"So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily."

About Puna Baptist Church
|
Thank you for your interest in our Church. Puna Baptist Mission has been part of the Pahoa Community since the early 1980's. The late Kahu Walter Kai was the first Pastor of the Puna Baptist Mission in 1981. This Mission was the outreach of its mother Church, Kinoole Baptist Church in Hilo. One month before the Mission officially became Puna Baptist Church, Kahu Kai succumbed to an acute asthma attack. In November of 1988, Puna Baptist Mission became a self-supporting Church and changed its name to Puna Baptist Church. Our present Pastor, Alan Tamashiro, has devotedly pastored Puna Baptist Church since 1998.
We are a friendly and loving Church family. Our purpose is to reach out to the people of the Puna District and share God's love for them through evangelism and ministry; to disciple believers; and to provide experiences of worship and fellowship. Puna Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. It participates with the Big Island Baptist Association and the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention. On November 15, 2008, Puna Baptist Church observed the Twentieth Anniversary of its founding. At the observance of its Twentieth Anniversary in 2008, Puna Baptist Church officially launched a fundraising drive to build a new Church structure on 3.4 acres located on Pahoa-Kapoho Road near Nanawale Estates. This fundraising drive was dedicated in loving memory to Christ's beloved and faithful servant, Kahu Walter Kai. Once the land was cleared and plans and permits approved, construction began in June of 2011. With God's help and the labors and generosity of scores of volunteers, the new building was completed and our first service was held Sunday, August 5, 2012. It is our sincere humble prayer that Puna Baptist Church will continue to be a lighthouse beaming the Good News into the heart of Pahoa. "For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building." 1 Corinthians 3:9 "In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord."
